spring is a comin’

Every March, we go to the butterfly exhibit at frederick meijer gardens…it reminds us that spring is on the way. i’m especially ready for spring this year. this michigan winter has been long and grey. i think i’ve soaked up all the indoor childrens activities that grand rapids has to offer! i’m ready to take the kids outside…to go to our favorite parks…to camp as a family…to go to the beach and visit lake michigan on the weekends. i’m ready to run in the warmth, rather than bundling up in 3-4 layers in the freezing cold at 5:30 in the morning. i’m ready for long summer nights relaxing with a glass of wine on our patio. i’m ready to see more of our neighbors and enjoy the walkability of our neighborhood. i’m ready to have a summer not being pregnant or with a newborn (in the past 5 summers, 3 have been full of pregnancy and birth). i’ve really tried to hold off on yearning for spring this year because i haven’t wanted to be too dissatisfied with what winter here has to offer. i love that our children get to experience four seasons. i love that emma and claire enjoy the snow so much (and now the mud). but i’m ready to voice this now…

i’ve also been reflecting lately on what else is renewing or beginning in me, a spring of my own sort…what stirrings in my heart are present. i’m trying not to quiet this but to tune in. trying to sit in the uncomfortability of this, hoping that tuning in will honor my values, my roles, and who i am…

  1. Kristin, I love your idea of “sitting in the uncomfortability” and “tuning in”. I hope that wonderful things emerge for you!

  2. I love the last picture with Levi and his soother! I hope spring comes soon for you in GR!

  3. What a priceless picture of your 3 developing youngsters (even in chronological order)!

  4. I’m not super familiar with that area , but it looks to me like the cosselt location listed on the chart is Farmington, with a date of May 1. If you tend to have similar weather to Farmington, I would use that date. You’re right on the edge of the two groups. If it is a mild winter/spring and you are excited, I would follow the yellow schedule. If it is a cold winter-spring and you are more relaxed, I would use the green schedule.
